October 31, 2012
The United Shippers Alliance’s (“USA”) export contracts were set to expire on October 31, 2012. Several of USA carriers had previously filed extensions for November 15 to cover possible bookings. The USA has successfully negotiated new contracts with APL, Hyundai, K-Line, ICL, NYK and USL.
The USA’s Evergreen, Hamburg-Sud and Hanjin contracts have been delayed due to Hurricane Sandy. The Evergreen contract was not extended as plans were to have the new contract in place with a November 1 effective date. Hurricane Sandy has greatly affected them as their headquarters in located in New York and is currently closed. They are unable to extend the current contract or finalize the new contract. USA staff is working closely with its Evergreen Rep to get a new contract in place as soon as possible.
